I’ve been a longtime fan and reader of the Kansas City-based
publication, Pitch Weekly. The publication started out as the newspaper-styled
Pitch Weekly that could be found, free of charge, at bars, restaurants, night
clubs, concert venues and record stores in Topeka, Lawrence and Kansas City.
Since then, the publication has evolved into the web-based Pitch.com. Primarily
an Arts & Entertainment publication, Pitch covers virtually every aspect of
the Kansas City-area nightlife and entertainment scene that one could possibly
imagine. Restaurant reviews, concert calendars and features on area musicians, the
local art community and even modern dating are all topics you’ll find in Pitch.
I’ve always appreciated the publication’s penchant for digging beneath the
mainstream and focusing on the various sub-cultures that pop up with each new
generation. A recent interview with filmmaker Kevin Smith about his movie “Red
State” and his run-ins with the Westboro Baptist Church gained national notoriety
for Pitch. It has long been a goal of mine to contribute to Pitch.com, particularly
to the music section.
