No officer, I was not texting and driving. I was blogging.
Hi, I’m Ryan. I’m a Mass Media: Contemporary Journalism
major with a minor in English. I chose this path because I’ve been actively
working in the Mass Media field for several years and hope to take things to a
new level with a degree from Washburn. I’ve been working as a freelance music
journalist for the last six years and have written for Blabbermouth.net, Hails
& Horns Magazine, Outburn Magazine, Amp Magazine, ArtistDirect.com,
About.com and several other print and online outlets. Three years ago, a colleague
and I formed Clawhammer PR, an independent music promotion and PR firm that
specializes in working with hard rock and metal acts. We currently have a
roster of bands and labels that spans the globe.
When I’m not swamped with work, I’m usually spending time
with family, watching football, playing guitar, trying to convince my wife that
the bearded look is the way to go, reading or spending quality time with my
couch. I was born and raised in Topeka, but spent eight or nine years in
Lawrence before moving back two years ago. Since coming back, I’ve become
actively involved in the local arts community, thanks to my wife who is an
accomplished local artist. This year marks my second as the music director and
board member of the Aaron Douglas Arts Fair committee. I’m currently wrapped
around the finger of my two month old daughter, Ellery Allena.
So there you have it. I hope reading this was as quick and
painless for you as writing it was for me. Enjoy the rest of your time here on
Earth.
